Its not the cross that counts

…. it’s the person carrying it that demonstrates its true value.

via Creative Minority Report:

I am reminded of the movie Gattaca, wherein the following piano piece is played throughout the sequence:

after which this passing commentary is offered for the viewer to ponder:

We’ve all got our cross to bear. They could be the catalyst for our sanctity and that of others, if we let them.

Thank you for those videos. I’m enjoying your blog already! The second piece is actually one I’ve played — Schubert Impromptu Op. 90 No. 3 — and it\’s one of my favorite pieces to perform. Music by itself can be transcendental, but that is even more the case when it’s the product of such a personal effort.

      Hi Alex,

You are so right. We have several musical children but one with an unusual gift along with some handicaps. Her music is particularly meaningful because of it. There was a time we thought we’d never hear it again and one night out of the nothingness came Franz Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B Minor and it was straight from heaven. I will never forget it.

      Blessings,
      Lisa

    • Thank you & welcome to the blog, Alex! It’s a blessing to be able to share these things.

It really is a beautiful testimony not just to this young woman’s skill, but her embrace of life despite the cross she was born with. Now that’s humanity as God intended; crosses embraced, carried and overcome! All glory be to God!

    Father,

That is truly one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The tears would not stop. We had a very similar experience with a child, a piano and a handicap.

You are right on target as usual. The compostion of the cross itself is irrelevent, it is the style with which it is carried that shows it’s worth. Humor, grace, humility, resignation and love….these are what help us carry the weight and follow Christ.

    A profound “Thank You”,
    Lisa
